What's in It?
Organic Palm Oil: Unlike "filler" oils, Palm Oil offers a firmness that helps our lip balm feel solid without being overly waxy or oily. Palm oil is also rich in antioxidants that can help prevent skin aging. Palm oil is the largest natural source of tocotrienol, part of the vitamin E family. Recent studies have found that the vitamin E derived from palm oil is more potent and aids in the healing of damaged skin.
Beeswax: A natural wax taken from the cell walls of honeycombs. Beeswax is a wonderful natural emulsifier which is why it is commonly used in cosmetics. Beeswax provides some firmness without the waxy feel of parfins and it adds a soft, pleasing fragrence. Beeswax also helps to seal and protect the skin when used in moisturizing products.
Organic Virgin Olive Oil: Obtained from pressing ripe olives. Used by Mediterranean people for centuries both as a food and as a treatment for damaged, dry hair and skin. Olive oil soothes, heals and lubricates the skin to prevent damage. Olive oil is used in many face creams as an emollient due to its superior penetrating power; olive oil doesn't sit on the skin feeling oily, it penetrates and moisturizes.
Hemp Seed Oil: Expressed from sterile seeds of the Cannabis plant, this oil is unusually high in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hemp seed oil most closely matches the skin's lipid profile making it a superior emollient and enabling rapid absorption.
Rosemary: Rosemary is a physical and mental stimulant and an astringent healer. Applied to the skin, rosemary oil helps strengthen the capillaries and has a rejuvenating effect. The most important ingredients in rosemary, thought to be responsible for many of Rosemary's therapeutic benefits, are caffeic acid and rosemarinic acid - both potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. Rosemary helps protect skin cells, which may prevent age-related skin damage. Rosemary extract has been shown to safeguard a protective protein called HSP70. The role of this protein is to reduce damage caused by stress, free radicals and other toxins on the skin.
Vitamin E: An important ingredient in many skin care products, due mainly to its healing and reparation qualities. However, recent studies have found that its anti-oxidant properties also make it an important active ingredient for both sunscreen and anti-ageing formulations.
Natural Flavoring: No artifical flavorings or colors.
Sunscreens: Octinoxate (7.5%) and Oxybenzone (3%). These are possibly the two most widely used sunscreen ingredients used in lip balms, cosmetics, sunscreen and sun blocks. A great deal has been written about the benefits and risks of all sunscreen ingredients in use today; and all provide benefits; and all present some hazard when used in excess. We have chosen to use these two ingredients because of their wide spread use. We are constantly on the look out for sunscreen ingredients that are safe, effective and natural. We welcome any input from you as we strive to continually improve our products. |
