product description
Redington Standard Tippet material is a reliable monofilament with great knot strength and abrasion resistance. Supple and easy to tie Redington tippet is an ideal choice for anglers of all levels, especially those of us who belong to the all thumbs club. To get you started I've put together a set of the tippet sizes you'll use most often. Your order will include 1 spool of each size: 3x, 4x, 5,x, 6x and 7x. Redington Standard Tippet retails for $3.50 a spool, at $15 for all five spools this is a great value.

What's this for?
At the end of your fly line is a length of tapered monofilament leader. The leader has an "X" size (3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7xetc). The "X" size refers to the thinnest portion of the leader. As you lose or remove flies you will be breaking or cutting away some of that expensive leader. Tippet is a less expensive material sized to match the leader. Just tie a few feet of tippet onto the end of your leader to get a lot more life out of that expensive leader. Plus the tippet tends to be more subtle than the leader allowing the fly to float more naturally in the water. You'll want to have a selection of tippet on hand. For a beginning trout angler I would recommend at least 1 spool of 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x and 7x. As your skills and fishing locations expand you'll eventually collect more sizes.

Which tippet do I use ? This list provides some general guidelines to help you select the right tippet for various hook sizes.
